About the site

Welcome to the Agroecological Cultural Precincts site. Agroecological Cultural Precincts (ACPs), an interdisciplinary project that combines Arts and Agroecology to explore the wide range of possibilities to relate to the environment sustainably.

How to coexist harmoniously with the other, be that person, animal, plant or landscape, so that each can find a space for self-realization through a mutually enriching coexistence?

The ACPs are, so to speak, “extended” versions of parks. “Extended” not because of their larger size, but because of the activities, interventions, installations, explorations in Arts and Agroecology that take place inside of them. Thus, they expand the traditional concept of a park, from a simply beautiful but utterly passive background to a rich platform requiring an active involvement with the surrounding natural elements.

Through interventions that stimulate curiosity and invite action, ACP visitors are expected to exhibit behaviors that should shed light on how they signify—and relate to—nature, how this relation can be understood from the cultural and historical point of view and how it can be reshaped or developed further.

One of the main objectives of this larger project is to reduce the gap between human-nature relations, a dualism that has become a severe ecological problem within the context of capitalism and its wasteful modus operandi. The ACP interventions are thus free from external materials or tools, requiring only people and the elements found in-situ. The reason for that, is not due to an attempt to return to primitivism, but rather to explore through creativity the huge number of unexplored possibilities that our environments already offer us, allowing us to satisfy a variety of needs from play, arts, food, etc. without relying on the market economy.

Greetings,
Rodrigo Arenas Catalán.
